Imma Di Lillo Ph. – I nostri anziani

The GRAND TOUR team invites photographers to participate in the call: THE TIME OF KIRON. It invites to recount OUR ELDERLY PEOPLE, with the universal language of Photography that nowadays has become universal.

The dark months of Covid-19, the months spent in our homes, have reversed all relationships, our perceptions, the urgency of things. We are leaving behind a void, but we feel the intimate conviction of the need and opportunity that can be filled. We are invited to look inside and make sense, an eschatological perspective, to this emptiness.

We feel that we are the cure: beauty will triumph. That beauty that is found in simple things, in expectations, in contemplation, in the breath of the things we love, in the scent of memories, in the harmony of gesture, among the photographs stored in drawers or stored in hard disks, in silence; in absence rather than presence.

THE TIME OF KIRON is a moment of reflection on the role of Photography in the time of Coronavirus. What images do we have, to build/restore a testimony of the time we are living, what stories do we want to tell?

Covid-19 is setting limits and outlining new possible scenarios. An awakening of awareness that suggests reviewing certain priorities from a different, purer perspective, comparing the data of our present with the memory of all the people, the places, and the objects with which we have related ourselves in the past.

“It’s the end of the world as we knew it and everything looks as thin as porcelain, as glass. Everything seems so thin and fragile, so worthy of being saved”. ..fragile and worthy of being saved, like our elders, those grandparents, who have faced more serious tragedies than the one we are experiencing now. Icons of rebirth and resilience.

GOAL

THE TIME OF KIRON, the Time of Healing, wants to be a reflection, a testimony, a search, and an artistic proposal through photography. An impulse for a new beginning; a surge of affection and closeness, of mature awareness, because this experience of collective mourning that affects the elderly in their physical vulnerability is quite different from the bereavement that we know to be an inescapable experience for the intimacy of each of us.

How to escape from this ? Preserving stories, telling, mixing fairy tales and memories, different smiles, different hugs, those we have known, those which have been given to us, those we do not want to get lost, those which belong to all those who, from generation to generation, have always imagined the best future for us. Let’s tell about our elderly people, those we have known, those we have only been told about, those we have photographed in our reports. Let’s recount them with Photography and let them arise with all their stories.
